Hello from Edinburgh, one of the most beautiful places I've ever had the pleasure to visit! I landed here late late Monday night and have spent the last three days touring the city, finding my way around, getting set up in my new flat and life here in general, getting adjusted to the time change and extreme temperature change, practicing and teaching....Ah, barely had a moment to stop and appreciate the fact that I'm in SCOTLAND :)
I've been so busy here - I've literally left my house early in the morning each day and not returned til nearly 10pm each evening. Last night I finished teaching around 8:30pm and walked the hour it takes to get home without my bike (went on foot yesterday) - well I cannot begin to describe the stunning view to which I had the pleasure to witness during my walk home - the castle in the center of the city, the breathtaking architecture all around, the old fashioned shops, the lights, cobbled streets....simply gorgeous!
Now that I'm getting a little more adjusted I will be blogging more often - and many of you have begged for photos - I promise I'll have some to you by the end of the weekend!!! I have weekends off and I'll spend this weekend exploring the city with my camera! So hold your britches a bit longer - it'll be well worth the wait I promise!
So the yoga....each day I've practiced in a different 'venue' - each time uber grateful for the space to roll out my mat. Tuesday was Marchmont yoga, a space inside a church rented out by some yogis to teach classes (just a group of seven teachers squeezing time from their busy day to get together and do their practice). Yesterday was in Karen's kitchen ;-) not the ideal setting but it worked and I was grateful she had the space in her kitchen, cause I certainly don't in mine! Today Karen and I met up with Yogi Chris at Union Yoga to do a delicious practice. The space is gorgeous and practice was amazing! Tomorrow I'll meet up with Chris to practice at the Yoga Room - looking forward to rolling out my mat in another new space.
The Yoga and the Climate: Well, that is taking a bit of adjustment on my part - it is certainly colder here than it is in Florida or India - and it does change your practice to some degree. It is running somewhere in the 50's each day and the mornings are a bit more chilly. Each place I've practiced thus far has heat running, but it just doesn't warm up that much. Tons and tons of practitioners do their yoga in this type of environment all year long - and I give you all major PROPS! It is a whole 'nother dynamic to work around in your practice - but one I'm excited to tackle. The cold climate enables practitioners to work more with connective tissue and a bit less with muscle - and I think this change will be really good for me over the next few months - already feels like it is helping my rotten left ac joint somewhat...
Classes: Some of my classes don't begin til the 15th, and still others not til the 22nd...so I won't be able to give you 'the scoop' on my classes at Dance Base, the British Geological Society, the University of Edinburgh and others associated with the University for a bit longer. But my classes at St. Mary's are AWESOME! I do three classes back to back on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. My first class at Virgin is tomorrow evening and I'm looking forward to it -checked out the space yesterday and I was FLOORED! NEVER in my ENTIRE life have I seen a more beautiful club/gym - it is out of this world phenomenal!
Wherever you are in the world, I wish you a gorgeous day ahead!
